The Jersey Softball Association Travel Grant Fund supports players, coaches, and umpires who undertake off-island development opportunities that will contribute to the growth and improvement of softball in Jersey.

The framework is designed to be transparent, equitable, and simple to administer, while ensuring that funded opportunities provide meaningful development benefits and a clear return to the local softball community.

Annual Fund

The annual Travel Grant Fund for 2026 is fixed at £12,500.

Assessment Criteria

Applications will be assessed against three criteria.

1. Travel Type

This criterion recognises that individual development opportunities are often more difficult and expensive to access than team travel.

Travel Type

Points

Individual travel

3

Small group (2-5 people)

2

Team (6+)

1

2. Development Opportunity

This criterion assesses the extent to which the opportunity provides access to coaching,

competition, officiating, or learning experiences beyond those normally available in Jersey.

Development Opportunity

Points

Examples

Comparable to local opportunities

1

A recreational level tournament. Or introductory umpiring course.

Moderately more advanced than local opportunities

3

A competitive level tournament or higher level umpiring/coaching course.

Significantly more advanced than local opportunities

5

A national or international tournament at any level.

Examples of significantly more advanced opportunities may include national-level tournaments, elite coaching programmes, advanced umpire certification courses, or high-performance training environments.

3. Contribution Back to JSA

Applicants must demonstrate how they will share the benefits of their experience with the local softball community.

Contribution Back to JSA

Points

Informal sharing of experience and learning

1

Delivery of a session, workshop, presentation, or written report

3

Leadership of a structured development activity benefiting multiple players, teams, coaches, or umpires

5

Applicants receiving funding will be required to complete the activity described in their

application.

Weighting

To reflect the objectives of the fund, each criterion is weighted as follows:

Criterion Weight

Weight

Travel Type

x1

Development Opportunity

x3

Contribution Back

x2

Scoring Formula

Application Score = (Travel Type × 1) + (Development Opportunity × 3) + (Contribution Back × 2)

*Maximum possible score: 28 points.

Grant Allocation

After all eligible applications have been assessed:

  1. Calculate the total score of all approved applications.

  2. Divide the annual fund (£12,500) by the total score to determine the value of one point.

  3. Calculate each grant using: Grant Award = Application Score × Value per Point

Funding Limits

To promote broad participation:

  • No applicant may receive more than 10% of the annual fund (£1,250) in a calendar year without approval from the Jersey Softball Association.

  • Grants cannot exceed the applicant's actual travel, accommodation, registration, or course costs.

  • Any surplus funds created by funding caps will be redistributed proportionally among remaining eligible applications.

Multiple Applications

Players, coaches, and umpires may apply for multiple eligible opportunities within the same year.

Each opportunity will be assessed independently, provided it represents a distinct development experience and includes a separate contribution-back commitment.

Application Questions

Applicants must provide responses to the following:

  1. Are you travelling as an individual, a small group (2–5 people), or a team (6+ people)?

  2. What is the opportunity and why does it offer development beyond what is available in Jersey?

  3. How will you share the benefits of this experience with the Jersey softball community?

Assessment Principles

  • All applications for Travel Funding must be received by FRIDAY JULY 17th.

  • Applications can be for any travel completed in 2026 EXCEPT the trip to Guernsey in April.

  • The assessment panel will apply the framework above consistently and may request additional information where necessary.

  • Funding decisions will be based on the published scoring system and the availability of funds.

  • Funding awards will be calculated by the end of July 2026 and distributed in August 2026.

  • Successful applicants will be asked to provide bank details for funds to be transferred.

  • All funding decisions will be fair and final.
