The Jersey Softball Association hosted an action-packed Jersey Firstball Tournament, sponsored by Carey Olsen, at Les Quennevais Playing Fields this weekend, drawing 11 competitive teams from across the UK and Ireland to challenge the island’s top squads.
The tournament showcased high-calibre play throughout a fiercely contested round robin on Saturday. With ties for first and second and deadlocks in the middle of the table, the standings reflected the quality and closeness of the field. Notably, three of the top five finishing teams hailed from Jersey, underlining the island’s growing strength in the sport.
Sunday’s finale saw the undefeated local side Marwyn Jersey Royals face off against the undefeated Irish side Sons of Pitches in the Cup final. Both teams came out firing, but it was the Royals who took early control, steadily building a lead and appearing on course for a home victory.
However, in a dramatic final-inning surge, the Sons found another gear, rallying late to overturn their 5-run deficit and claim the title in thrilling fashion scoring 8 runs to bring their final score to 15 - 12.
Umpires named Holly (Royals) and Sal (Sons of Pitches) as the match MVPs for their standout performances.
Reflecting on the weekend, JSA President Robin Tadier said: “It was fantastic to see so many teams enjoying the sport, with such a great sense of community both on and off the field. Events like this give our local players valuable tournament experience and are a perfect springboard into the outdoor season.”
With intense competition, a strong local showing, and exciting international flair, the 2025 Jersey Firstball Tournament proved a clear success.
