Jersey’s men’s side LegenDairy went unbeaten across the weekend to lift the Men’s Recreational Division title, capping off a dream debut year for the squad.
Formed to take part in the one-day Let the Boys Play tournament last year, the team impressed with a mix of seasoned players and promising newcomers, including 16-year-old Noah Benander, who played alongside his father, Ben.
They opened with a 17–9 win over hosts Thunder III before back-to-back blowouts against Whackers (20–1) and Cardiff (19–2). After battling back to defeat BAM 12–7 and shutting out Thunder III 23–0 in a rematch, they ended Day 1 undefeated.
Sunday brought more drama, as a stunning last-inning comeback helped LegenDairy edge Cardiff 15–14, before holding off Whackers 13–11 and seeing off BAM 11–7 to complete a perfect round-robin.
Their final opponents were Cardiff, but there would be no repeat of the earlier close encounter, LegenDairy exploded with a 10-run first inning and never looked back, sealing a dominant 25–3 win to claim the title.
Team founder and Captain Ricardo Sousa said: “I’m absolutely delighted for everyone on the team. Coming away to these tournaments from Jersey always involves a lot of hard work so it is fantastic when these turn into great experiences. Winning so many games and the tournament itself was the icing on the cake. We hope to be back and fly the Jersey flag in the future.”
He also praised the Cowabungas: “It was amazing to watch them and cheer them on and equally have their support during the weekend.”
The team named young star Noah Benander as their tournament MVP. Sousa added: “It was fantastic to have such a blend of experienced and emerging players. Noah did a fantastic job and thoroughly deserved the award.”
