The indoor softball league brought its 2024 calendar to a close with an exciting weekend of action at Fort Regent. Four teams hit the field for the final games before the holiday break, with players donning Santa hats and seasonal spirit for a day filled with competitive energy and camaraderie.
Falcons Hold Off Phoenix in Defensive Masterclass
In the opening game, Ferryspeed Falcons showcased incredible defensive form to claim a victory over Jacksons Phoenix. Outfielders Jessica Parsons-Page and Paulo Dos Reis played a crucial role, making sharp catches to turn hard-hit balls off the back wall into outs. Esther Lempriere added to the defensive showcase, closing out a brilliant double play from right field to first base, followed by a quick tag at home plate that stifled Phoenix’s attempts to build momentum.
Phoenix, meanwhile, gave a determined effort. Shortstop Andy Romeril was a standout, making excellent plays to keep the team in contention, while pitcher Martin Powell delivered precision at the pitcher’s plate that challenged the Falcons’ batting lineup. Second base, Micky Gosselin, also contributed with some key catches and outs. Despite Phoenix’s resilience, the Falcons proved too strong on the day, securing a commanding 66 to -15 victory.
Flyers Edge Tigerz in Tight Contest
The second game delivered a much closer contest, with 3CI Sport Flyers narrowly defeating Express Auto Parts Tigerz in a high-energy matchup. Flyers’ captain Chris Le Lion and Mich Le Lion were key to their team’s success, hitting crucial home runs that shifted the momentum at vital moments.
Tigerz kept the game within reach, thanks to clever pitching from Ryan, which limited Flyers’ scoring opportunities. The game remained tightly contested until the final moments, but the Flyers’ offense ultimately sealed a 39-30 victory, capping off an impressive team performance.
Giants Benefit from Forfeit
The final game of the day was awarded to the Henderson Green Giants via forfeit, with the Titans unable to field a team. The automatic 15 to -10 win went to the Giants.
