2015 Match Reports
Match 7 Phoenix Vs Niners
A tough weekend for Jacksons Phoenix saw them line up against the division 1 leviathans, Dominion Niners. Whilst Phoenix started with confidence, there was little room for manoeuvre, and in spite of a good mix of base hits and outfield drives, the Niners were able to halt the Jacksons teams progress round the bases. In the field, Phoenix showed determination and were providing good coverage, but were unable to withstand the Niners clever placement batting. Great performances from Alex Kilpatrick, with Micky Gosselin, Fionnuala Cope, Chelsey Warner, Cameron Ramsay and Jason Boschat each taking important catches. Niners went 2 wins for 2 meetings, but some positives for the Jacksons team to take away. Final score 39 - 6.
Match 5 Phoenix Vs Falcons
The sister teams of Jacksons Falcons and Jacksons Phoenix met for the second time this Sunday with the more seasoned Falcons again proving the dominant force, though Phoenix again showed their teeth and made the Falcons work for the victory.
Falcons took the early lead but Phoenix rose to the challenge, responding by shutting the Falcons down in the second, third and fourth innings, Cameron Ramsey of Phoenix taking 7 outfield catches during the match.
The Falcons switch of strategy to base hitting in the 5th saw them stretch a comfortable lead, which Phoenix were unable to claw back, with Scott Robberts home run for the Falcons in the 7th sealing the deal (a massive right field drive with Robberts adding switch hitter to his list of attributes)
Final score Jacksons Falcons 21 - Jacksons Phoenix 8
Match 4 Phoenix Vs Eagles
A game very much of two halves when Jacksons Phoenix took on sister team Jacksons Eagles this Sunday. Phoenix getting off to a shaky start both at bat and on the field. In contrast, Jacksons Eagles came out of the starting blocks with a maturity and game knowledge that belied the inexperience in their ranks (this game being only their 4th as a team). Selina Bideau scoring the first of 6 runs in the first inning which closed with Eagles leading Phoenix 6 runs to 1.
With Eagles showing they meant business, Jacksons Phoenix regrouped and doubled their efforts, with an improved showing in the second closing the gap, Phoenix gathered momentum throughout the match.
Cameron Ramsay for Phoenix had the best day at bat, scoring three home runs and bringing home one other runner, with home runs also coming from Chantelle Cunningham and Jake O'Toole (each scoring one) and Robin Tadier (lending his talents from Jacksons Falcons) scoring a Grand Slam at bat and providing an excellent turn as relief pitcher for the hard hitting Phoenix squad.
Eagles, showing improvement with each game, looked equally menacing at their turn in the batters box, and in spite of much improved fielding from their sister team were placing their hits well throughout their line up, with both Jordan de la Perrelle and Stuart Emmanuel (both in their first season of the Sport) scoring home runs for the Eagles.
Positive performances all round from the Eagles fielders too, with Leah Cunningham again looking commanding at Short Stop, and taking a catch millimetres from the ground.
For Phoenix, having recovered from their early stage fright, some stellar fielding link-ups came from Alex Kilpatrick, Ramsay and Tadier (respectively at Pitch) and Jason Boschat, with Boschat taking a double play in the 4th to close out the innings.
Final score after 5 innings (Ball Game) Jacksons Phoenix 32 - Jacksons Eagles 15
MVP for Eagles were Selina Bideau and Stuart Emmanuel. For Phoenix Cam Bo and Chaz Cunningham took the plaudits.
Match 2 Phoenix Vs Pirates
In their second match of their division 1 campaign, Jacksons Phoenix lined up against CPA Global Pirates. Phoenix batting first got off to a cautious start, but aggressively ran the bases and were able to establish a lead. On the field, Phoenix showed the confidence that saw them promoted last year, with fast returns from the outfield and great work by infielders Jason Boschat, Alex Kilpatrick and Michaela Gosselin. The Jacksons team maintained strong defence throughout the game, and Pirates were unable to find the gaps when batting, with left fielder Jake O’Toole particularly dispatching with some powerful outfield drives by the Pirates. O’Toole on great form, took some vital catches through the match and topped off his game by celebrating his first home run of the season. In spite of their slick fielding, Phoenix struggled to find a natural rhythm at bat, and were unable to capitalise on the advantage gained. With a late resurgence in the 6th, Pirates managed to steal back the lead, with the game ending 10 – 6. A close fought match, with Phoenix showing good promise for the forthcoming matches.
Match 1 Phoenix Vs Falcons
In a scorching start to the 2015 JSA Summer season, Jacksons Falcons took on their sister team, the freshly promoted Jacksons Phoenix. Falcons taking to bat first, the experience in their ranks shone through from the off, with Ric Pedro sending a deep outfield ball past the Phoenix gloves in left field.
A tentative start from 2014's d2 champs Phoenix on the field allowed the Falcons to advance round the bases, and the Falcons were quick to capitalise, racking up 13 runs in the first 2 innings before Phoenix could shake off the early nerves.
Falcons proved difficult to contain throughout the 6 innings played, and excellent placement hitting from Pedro, along with home run hitters Scott Roberts, Gabriel Anzla and Sam Lempriere (HR on unforced errors) tested the Phoenix defences, but the Phoenix team improved over the course of the game, with flashes of last seasons excellent on field pairings coming through between infielders Cameron Ramsay, Alex Kilpatrick, Jason Boschat and Chaz Cunningham.
By the dying stages, Phoenix were starting to show more much more confidence and aggression both defensively and at bat, but the Falcons had cruised to a comfortable victory, with 22 runs to the Phoenix teams 4.
