Channel Islands Uptons Result

Uptons Division II Match – PBS Flyers (Jsy) v Mercator (Gsy)
The Flyers took a bit of time to settle into the match with Mercator scoring 6 runs in their first at bat which included a home run from Jon Marley. However the Flyers soon got into the groove in the second innings scoring 7 runs. In their second at bat Mercator struggled only managing to score 2 runs with Marley trying for his second home run but only to be thwarted within inches of home plate on a tag by Flyers catcher, Ali Wade. The 3rd and 4th innings for both teams saw some excellent fielding by both teams which meant not many runs being scored. Flyers Pitcher Tim Jones scored the 1st of his 2 home runs and bringing in runners. The fifth innings had Mercator pulling ahead and Flyers playing catch up. In the field the right centre/second base combo of Phil Bouchard and Ray Foster worked well with quick reaction on pick-ups and throw-ins. In the last 2 innings Flyers only managed to notch up 5 runs to increase their score to 15 whereas Mercator chalked up another 7 runs to make the final score 24-15 to the Guernsey team.

Uptons Division I Match – Dominion Niners (Jsy) v Tornadoes (Gsy)
At the end of the first innings of this match the Niners were 3-1 in the lead which included a powerful home run from Sean Billson which brought in Rena Nelson. From here on the Niners seemed to struggle with the bat due to some strong fielding by their opponents but Tornadoes didnt have it all their own way in the field with Nelson taking some very prominent catches off Ean Sarahs hit in the first innings and Danielle Youlton’s bat in the 3rd innings. The Tornadoes short stop, Ben Corson, was, at times quite difficult for the Niners to penetrate his tight defence but in response the Niners short stop/second base duo of Billson and Claire Malzard worked well making those all important outs particularly in the 5th and 6th innings but this year it was not the Jersey’s team turn to retain the trophy with the final score Tornadoes 14 Dominion Niners 5.
