| 25th July, Panther Office Products (20) v Falcons (11)
Panther Office Products went into this game, determined to get back on track, but started off a little nervously, with some loose fielding. Once the sun broke through, and everyone warmed up, The team fielded and batted well, to maintain a slender lead in the early stages from a determined Falcons squad, who can never be taken for granted. Numerous Key outs were then made between Jeff McGarry at Pitcher throwing to 1 st base player Micky Gosselin. Then a double play, with a reaching catch by Paul Wilkinson at short stop, and throw to First for an appeal double play, as the runner had left the base prior to a caught ball. The outfield doing there part too, with a notable fielding by Richard Bagot, taking a mid distance ground ball, and making a fast throw to 3rd baser Steve Wauchope, for a tag play out.
Batting wise, the Panthers held it all together, hitting, running, and base coaching, to get the points on the board. 4 Home runs, 2 each by Paul Wilkinson and Jeff McGarry. This all backed up by the whole squad, notably solid base hitting and running by Sharon McGrath and Steve Wauchope, who batted the whole game with no outs and made 7 runs between them.
The final score, 20 runs to 11, in favour of Panther Office Products.
PANTHERS ARE BACK ON THE PROWL.
6th June - Panthers (25) v Cubs (24)
This was a must win game for the Panthers, against a Division one side, the Cubs, to keep themselves near the top of the Divison two table. It started well, Martin Edwards standing in for inured pitcher Nick Averre, with Panthers taking a 4 -3 lead after the first, and 9 - 6 after the second innings, with Paul Wilkinson taking a double play, tag and base through 2nd, for two outs. Going into the 3rd innings the Panthers were looking good, and then somehow stepped off the gas. Cubs, determined to make in roads, piled on the pressure, allowing Panthers to only gain 2 more runs, to their own 15, turning the tables completely to 21 - 11. Advantage to Cubs. The fifth innings saw Cubs gain three more runs giving them a 24 - 11 lead. Time was called for no new innings, and Panthers had only one bat innings left to take the points. Orla Kelly stepped up to the plate, and led the team off. Safe at first. The team went through the order, for 10 runs, and brought Orla to bat a second time in the same innings. The score now 24 - 21 to Cubs, with no outs. Panthers gained another run, and then disaster. Two out in one play, by Steve Le Monnier taking an outfield catch, and then running to second for a succesfull appeal play, with a runner having left second base prior to a caught fly ball. With One out remaining, and three runs needed for a win, which way were the tables going to fall. Tension was high. With both teams fighting for victory, more runs were scored, with Martin Edwards running home the vital one, to give the Panthers a 25 - 24 win, before the 3rd out. All credit to Cubs, who did everything they could, with notable field play and batting by John Rive and Steve Le Monnier. Panthers never give up. 25th July, Panther Office Products (20) v Falcons (11)
