Bringing the worlds most popular team sport to Jersey

Team Introduction

The Falcons have been a part of the Jersey Softball Association since 2001, but back then they weren’t called the Falcons. They actually started life as two independent works team. There was the Itex Cougars, and Social Security Social Club. In 2003 the teams decided to join forces and became the Falcons. They have moved way from being a works team, and now operate as a private team of like minded individuals.

Team News

15th Aug - Falcons (9) Vs RBC Canucks (8)
In some rather soggy conditions, the Falcons turned out for the first of their two games of the day, tackling division 2's newly crowned champions, the RBC Canucks.

Falcons were batting first, and opened with a flying start with Chris Halford taking a cheeky home run. But the Canucks were quick to make it clear that it would not be plain sailing, with 2 outs following in swift succession. Nardine Nicholas brought home the second run before the Falcons were closed down.

The Falcons fielding was kept nice and tight, and whilst the first innings ended even with both sides chalking two runs on the board, the Falcons were able to close the Canucks down in the next 2 innings, with Pitcher Ronnie Le Monnier stealing home to help the Falcons gain a one run advantage by the end of the third. The Canucks drew level in the 4th however, and both teams seemed to be enjoying the closely contested match, in spite of the changeable weather.

Going into the 5th, and with everything to play for, both teams had their most successful innings. Falcons brought in three at once when Ronnie chased home the two runners on the field, however were kept from stretching the lead any further. Whilst it looked as though the Falcons may have been able to hold RBC to just the one run, it all turned with a stonking hit from Canuck Andy Audrain with all bases loaded, which brought in 4 with his home run and allowed the hard hitting RBC to edge ahead for the first time with a two run advantage.

With the clouds finally beginning to clear, the Falcons fought back with all they had, Captain Robin Tadier taking the Falcons third home run of the match and bringing the score line to just one run difference. With the pressure on, the Falcons rallied and once again were able to close down the opposition when it counted, in both the 6th and 7th innings, with the final scoring runs of Dom Alfano and Mark Halliwell being enough for the Falcons to snatch victory by just one run, final score 9 - 8 to the Falcons.

Special thanks to Helen Oakley for ringing for the team today.

8th Aug - Falcons (15) Vs Cubs (11)
This inter-divisional game was a close encounter between division one Cubs and division two Falcons.

Cubs were the first team to bat and the Falcons struggled to close their strong opening batters and Cubs managed to bring two runs home before being closed out. In response, the Falcons managed to score 3 runs.

A combination of great fielding and some fine pitching then saw the Cubs' next three batters dismissed for no runs. In return, the Falcons managed to add one more run taking 4-2 lead after two innings.

The next two innings saw both teams score one run in each inning, with no team taking real control of the game

Cubs then enjoyed a productive start to the fifth inning scoring 4 runs. In turn, the Falcons responded scoring 3 runs before being closed out, bringing the score 9-8 to Falcons with the game firmly hanging in the balance.

The 6th inning proved crucial, with Cubs starting well and getting some runs on the board before being closed out for 3 runs. The Falcons needing two runs to go back to level turns, found their batting form and scored 6 runs, bringing the score to 11-15, which became the final score as Cubs failed to score any runs in their 7th inning which meant the Falcons had won with a batting innings to spare.

A great result for the Falcons who recorded their first played victory of the season.

For the Falcons, Ronnie Le Monnier had a great game both pitching and with the bat, scoring 5 runs. Sue Terry also had a great game taking a number of force outs on second base and scoring 3 runs. Mentions also must be made of Dom Warren-Gash for some superb outfield catches and of Chris Halford and Dom Alfano for their home runs.

1st Aug - Falcons (7) Vs Thunder (12)
Falcons as the away team took to batting first. They started well and managed to put two runs on the board before being closed down. Thunder then took to batting and the Falcons managed to hold them to only two runs.

Thunder's defence then tightened and the Falcons struggled to make it beyond third base, whilst adding some more runs and taking the lead.

The Falcons managed a late rally but unfortunately could not overturn the deficit and the match finished with Thunder taking a 12-7 win.

For the Falcons there were some good performances infielder Chris Halford, Tasha Whipp and Nardine Nicolas. A mention must also be made to rookie Dan O'Kane who scored a home run.

The Falcons continue to improve and the remainder of the season is looking brighter for them.
