11th Jul - PBS Flyers (16) Vs Thunder (0)
This was an inter-divisional fixture, with the First Division PBS Flyers taking on Second Division Thunder.
The Flyers’ defence were near-faultless and shut down Thunder’s batting line-up for the whole of the game, with infielders Agi Blaszczyk and Chris Le Lion both excelling with the glove. When the ball did reach the outfield, Phil Bouchard caught any ball that came his way. The Flyers showed better ability with the bat throughout the game and scored in each of their innings.
The decisive innings of the match was the third, with the Flyers batting around the order, and scoring seven runs, to take a 14-0 lead. Thunder needed to make in-roads into the deficit in their fourth and fifth innings and score for the first time in the game. However, the Flyers’ defence continued to be miserly and after Thunder’s fifth innings the umpire invoked the “mercy” rule, giving the Flyers a 16 - 0 victory.
There were good batting performances for the Flyers from Jackie Davis, Lindsay Miller and Danny Le Maistre.
Agi Blaszczyk, with her 4-for-4 batting and fielding performance at First Base, was named the Flyers’ player-of-the-match.
27th Jun - PBS Flyers (23) Vs Falcons (7)
This was an inter-divisional fixture, with the First Division PBS Flyers taking on the Second Division Falcons.
The Flyers lived up to their name, by starting the game in a hurry and scoring ten runs in their first innings. This feat was repeated in the third innings and included a hustled Home Run by Phil Bouchard. Although the Falcons scored in every innings, they were unable to make a significant score in any of them. This was in large part due to the performance of the Flyers’ Agi Blaszczyk, the only female Pitcher in the League. As well as pitching and defending her position well, she out-performed her opposite number. Another main defensive contributor for the Flyers was Carmella Knight on First Base, who accounted for nine of the Falcons “outs”.
With the Falcons seventeen points in arrears after four innings, they needed a big score to make the Flyers bat again. However, the Flyers’ defence restricted the Falcons to only one run and ran out 23 – 7 winners.
There were good batting performances for the Flyers from Kerry-anne Laffoley, Kate Roberts and Danny Le Maistre. Phil Bouchard, with his 4-for-4 batting performance, was named the Flyers’ player-of-the-match.
