Bringing the worlds most popular team sport to Jersey

Team Introduction

The Falcons have been a part of the Jersey Softball Association since 2001, but back then they weren’t called the Falcons. They actually started life as two independent works team. There was the Itex Cougars, and Social Security Social Club. In 2003 the teams decided to join forces and became the Falcons. They have moved way from being a works team, and now operate as a private team of like minded individuals.

Team News

11th Jul - Falcons (9) Vs RBC Canucks (22)
In a game played with a great spirit between the two team, RBC Canucks ended up taking a good win against a fighting Falcons side.

The opening three innings saw both teams displaying some good defensive work, with the Falcons hedging RBC Canucks by two runs at this stage.

The fourth inning saw a combination of some great batting from RBC Canucks as well as some fielding errors by the Falcons, which the Canucks capitalised on to score a massive 11 runs in that inning. In response the Falcons were only able to score 1 run giving the Canucks a 8 run lead after four innings.

The rest of the game saw the Canucks display a strong defence against the Falcons and increase their advantage slightly until the end of the game which ended in a 22-9 victory for RBC Canucks in a highly enjoyable match.

Falcons should take encouragement from this game as they held runaway division 2 leaders RBC Canucks to no runs in 3 innings.

For the Falcons Cherie Le Maistre had a good game on first game taking a number of outs and also performed well with the bat. Pitcher Ronnie Le Monnier had a good game both pitching and with the bat.

27th Jun - Falcons (7) Vs PBS Flyers (23)
A good turn-out for both the Flyers and the Falcons saw no ringers used by either team.

Falcons were batting first and made some positive plays, with Nardine Nicholas and Ronnie Le Monnier spear-heading the opening run in a sacrifice play that got the Falcons on the board. Rookie Gary Coleman continues to improve in match play and also added to the scoreboard, but some classy fielding from the division 1 side kept the Falcons to two.

The Flyers had a very strong opening innings, but disappointingly chose to play a waiting game, taking advantage of the sweltering conditions which had affected both pitchers to push much of the field round, taking 9 runs before the fielding Falcons had the opportunity to close them down.

Gameplay continued in much the same vein, with Falcons taking an extra 4 runs in the second to forth innings against the Flyers 14, exhibiting some much improved fielding when presented with the opportunity, and opting to swing the bats when able to gain that vital match pressured batting experience for the young team in favour of the walk. Whilst not always the most fruitful option, the Falcons continue to see improvements with their rookie players confidence on the plate and are sure that this will provide a longer term advantage against division 2 sides.

The tightest fielding plays came for the Falcons in the 4th innings when the time pressed Flyers started swinging in earnest, and a great outfield catch from Dom Alfano was swiftly followed with a double play on a fly ball, closing the Flyers down for the first time during the match and ending the game at 23 runs to 7.
