ELEVEN I.S.S. FLYERS 14 CPA GLOBAL PIRATES 46

CPA GLOBAL PIRATES 50 ELEVEN I.S.S. FLYERS 53
The first game of match week five saw the improving Eleven I.S.S. Flyers take on the 2011 Champions, and undefeated, CPA Global Pirates. This was the return fixture of the teams’ second game of the season, which the Pirates had won decisively.
However, this match-up turned out to be a much closer affair, with the initiative switching between the teams throughout the game.
In the field, the Flyers came under considerable pressure from the Pirates’ batters. Accurate pitching by Chris Le Lion, and the tactic of forcing-out the batter-runners at First Base by Phil Bouchard and Paulo Dos Reis, kept the Flyers in the game.
The Flyers’ batting line-up could not reach the heights of the previous week against such a strong Pirates’ defence, with Mark Knight the only player able to hit a Home Run. As a result, points had to be gained by making consistent base-hits and good base-running, with Vics Hibbs and Helen Oakley leading the way for the Flyers.
After five hard-fought innings the result was a narrow, and famous, three run victory for the Flyers.
