The Bean Machine is a Jersey based independent touring Slow-Pitch Softball team. The brain child of David Turner and Ric Pedro, the Bean Machine stems from the fact that much of the off-island Softball activities involve the top league players who are selected to represent the Jersey Softball Association at overseas tournaments. Being a small Island community the Bean Machine was formed to offer all Jersey Softball players the opportunity to play some of the many recreational tournaments in the UK, meeting and playing against new people and teams, and generally having fun and frolics in the process.
2007 was our inaugural year, and to mark the occasion 18 beans went to the Bristol Recreational tournament in August. Even though it lashed down the whole weekend (and we were camping) the team came though it with flying colours by being runners up in our competition (of 16 teams). We made quite a mark on the tournament as our very own Lord Biltong won the pitching competition and the team as a whole won the 'Most Sociable Team' award thanks to our friendliness and positive playful attitude during the tournament… well that’s the official story anyway!
