When did it all begin?
Softball has been in existence in Jersey for over fifteen years. It started way back in 1991 when a group of friends formed a team to play against Bankers and Farmers who were organised by a yank. Word soon spread throughout Jersey and by 1993 the Jersey Softball Association was formed and the first league structured.
What's it all about?
The Jersey Softball Association plays recreational softball, or slow-pitch softball. Softball is very similar to Baseball (not rounder’s) with the main difference being the underarm pitching. Softball refines the rules to allow the maximum amount of enjoyment for everyone regardless of ability.

There are different variations to slow-pitch softball, but the code the JSA follows is called Co-Ed Slow-Pitch, meaning that the teams are mixed with an equal number of male and female players.

Softball is unique in being one of only two or three sports where men and women can compete on the same team as equals. That makes softball an ideal sport for company teams, where the social aspects of being on a team are just as important as the competitive aspect.

Each team consists of 10 players both male and female with the minimum age to play being 14 years. A game consists of 7 innings and can last anywhere between 1 and 2 hours. The winning team is the one with the most runs at the end of the game. All games are presided over by one of the JSA qualified umpires.
When and where do we play?
We play every Sunday throughout the Summer. Training is held at Haute Vallee school playing fields on a week night starting at the beginning of April and games are played every Sunday Starting May ending September at Les Quennevais sports fields.
How can you get involved?
You can get involved by either joining an already established team or starting a team of your own. We are always looking for more players and a Softball 4 all day is usually run at the beginning of the season for any newcomers to try it out. To find out more information or ask questions contact the President, Ali Wade. Contact details for the president and current team captains can be found on our contact us page.
Island Team and Tournaments

Each summer ther are open training sessions, followed by a selection process, of the best softball players on the Island to represent Jersey in softball tournaments throughout the UK, Guernsey and Europe.

The Jersey Island A and B teams play their Guernsey counterparts annually for the coveted Inter-Island titles. We also host a slow-pitch tournament at the beginning of May which attracts approximately 14 teams from the UK and Ireland who battle it out over two days.

Committee
The Jersey Softball Association is run by a committee who meet every month throughout the year to plan the league, arrange fundraising and social events, and discuss issues when they arise.

Each meeting is also attended by the captain or a representative from each team in the league so all information discussed can be passed on to all their respective team members.

The Committee consists of President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fixtures Secretary and Press Officer - who are also players. Other JSA officials include Island Team Coach/Manager and Tournament Organiser. The JSA also has two qualified coaches and ten qualified umpires.
